New Scout Quick Start Guide

Who can join Troop 1933?

Troop 1933 is open to all boys between the ages of 10-17 (as long as you have completed 5th grade). While many boys cross-over to Troop 1933 at the end of Cub Scouts, all are welcome at any time of year, regardless of previous scouting experience.

How do I join Troop 1933?

Click the below button to be taken directly to the application, make an account, add your scout, and pay the registration fee.

Once You
Register

The troop meets every Tuesday night from 6:30pm - 8:00pm at the Presbyterian Church First, 540 Main Street, Kalispell.

Our troop calendar and communication is on the Band app. We will add you as soon as you have completed your registration and join the troop.

New scouts will be put into a patrol, the centra
l organizing unit of the troop. Each patrol has a patrol leader who is responsible for things like organizing food for camping trips and helping patrol members with advancement.

The patrol leaders report to the troop's Senior Patrol Leader who has several older scouts to help. Adult leaders are also available to help as well as being responsible for the safety of every scout in the troop.

Do I need
a uniform?

Every scout should purchase the following items for their uniform (please note, we also have a uniform bank with items we share in a uniform exchange):
- BSA Scout Class A Uniform Shirt (short sleeves recommended)
- BSA Scout Uniform shorts or pants (does not have to be official BSA pants or short if they are the same color)
- Green scout ball cap
- Sturdy hiking boots

DO NOT BUY THE FOLLOWING ITEMS, the troop will provide them to you:
- BSA Montana Council shoulder patch

- Custom Troop Neckerchief
- BSA World Crest patch

- BSA green shoulder loops
- Troop Numerals (for uniform)

You will also be provided with a Class B t-shirt with our troop logo and a blue shirt to be worn during the annual fundraiser at the county fair in August.

Uniforms and other scout supplies can be purchased online here:
Or at the local Army/Navy store.

Our local Northwest District has a lending uniform closet available to scouts in need; limited to available sizes (please see New Member Coordinator).

What are the expectations of me as a scout in Troop 1933?

All members of Scouts BSA are expected to conduct themselves in accordance with the principles set forth in the Scout Oath and Law. Participation in all scouting events is at the discretion of the individual scout. However, to have the most positive experience in both learning and advancement, a minimum of 85% participation in scouting events is recommended. If a scout has a conflict with an event the scout should advise their patrol leader and an adult leader. Many times, arrangements can be made to accommodate late arrival to camps due to athletic or other outside commitments. Many of our scouts actively participate in school athletics, youth groups, and marching band, while still having time for family and social obligations. In addition, all scouts in Troop 1933 are expected to assist the troop in its fundraising efforts.

Do my parents need to do anything to help the Troop?

Scouting is all about kids, but all scout troops require dedicated adults to run the troop. Our expectation is that parents be open to volunteering with the troop in some capacity during their son's tenure with the troop. Some parents will be more involved than others depending on their own interest and availability. We pride ourselves on being a "Scout Led Troop," but any successful troop requires dedicated adults to make it all come together. For those parents who intend to join the troop on campouts or serve in any leadership role you will need to take Youth Protection Training.
